We believe you deserve to be your own boss and thrive

Sarah Attwell (MBAcC, BSc Acu, Lic Ac), Founder of Sole Trader Courses. “Hi, I'm Sarah, an acupuncturist and a business coach for self-employed therapists across the UK.”

You trained to help people. Not to dance on TikTok.

If you're a self-employed therapist, you probably didn't sign up for the social media cringe factor, the stomach-churning effect of tax returns, or the awkwardness of marketing yourself without feeling like a sleazy car salesman. But here you are, brilliant at your craft, quietly wondering why getting your practice off the ground feels harder than the actual work.

I've been there. I've been a self-employed acupuncturist since 2013, and I know the highs of a fully booked clinic, and the lows of sitting in an empty room waiting for a client who never turns up. Alongside my practice I've taught at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine and chaired the British Acupuncture Council's Governing Board. Before all that, I cut my teeth in Learning & Development, geeking out on training design and behaviour change.

The penny dropped

After years of mentoring practitioners and running local networks, I saw the same patterns over and over: amazing, skilled people struggling to make a living; the same traps tripping them up (hello, discounting); and the same breakthroughs turning things around. So I pulled it all together into a structured system: the GROW Formula.

Why GROW actually works

It's built on proven marketing models like AIDA and the 7Ps, solid research into what makes self-employed therapists succeed, and input from three specialists: an MBA-level marketing strategist with 20+ years' experience, a respected leader in the world of start-ups, and a Chartered Accountant who specialises in small business finance. It doesn't require a personality transplant, ditching your values, or a daily TikTok routine.
